Route 6 named after veteran Galetti brothers of Seatonville

SEATONVILLE –  More than 200 people were in attendance for a road naming ceremony in honor of the eight Galetti brothers of Seatonville who all served in the U.S. military. State Senator Sue Rezin (R-Morris) and State Representative Lance Yednock (D-Ottawa) hosted the event Thursday, July 25 at the Seatonville Fire Department to officially name a section of Route 6 as the “Galetti Brothers Memorial Highway.”

“It is an honor to the Galetti brothers and family who sacrificed so much for our nation,” said Rep. Yednock. “Renaming parts of Route 6 is just one way we can express our gratitude for their service.”

“It was so great to see so many people from the community come and support this great family,” said Sen. Rezin. “It is my hope by naming this stretch of Route 6 in their honor that motorists remember their service each time they drive by. We can never properly thank them but we can at least ensure that their incredible story lives on forever.”

Rep. Yednock and Sen. Rezin sponsored House Joint Resolution 61, which names Route 6 from Hollowayville to Ladd Junction going through Seatonville as the “Galetti Brothers Memorial Highway.”

The eight brothers (Michael, Joseph, John, Lawrence, George, James, Jess, and Dennis) all served in the military for a total span of 28 years from 1941 to 1969.

The ceremony included remarks from not only the two legislators but also Linda Chapa LaVia, Acting Director of Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and several members of the Galetti family.
