SPRINGFIELD – Starved Rock State Park could be introducing a parking fee for visitors in the future. 38th District Senator Sue Rezin filed Senate Bill 1310 that would allow the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to charge a parking fee to help keep up with maintenance projects and infrastructures that are deteriorating from the amount of visitors every year, says Sen. Rezin’s Media Coordinator Ellie Leonard. Visitors will be given the option to buy a one year pass or pay a parking fee each visit. IDNR Communications Director Ed Cross says the department welcomes the opportunity to work with the legislature to provide the necessary resources to accomplish the objective. Sen. Rezin says she hopes it’s a very small nominal parking fee to help keep up with the park.
