Snake orgy shuts down park

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Birds do it. Bees do it. And, as people near a lake in Florida found out the other day, so do snakes — in large groups. Authorities in Lakeland shut down a section of a lake this past Thursday after getting reports of snakes thrashing about in the water. They weren’t just swarming; wildlife officials say the non-venomous water snakes were mating. Officials say the snakes aren’t considered aggressive — so long as people don’t disturb them. And once they finish their mating, they usually go their separate ways.
