Spring Valley’s Fire Department addresses need for certified daytime personnel

SPRING VALLEY –  Spring Valley’s Fire Department is proposing to hire part time firemen. Conversations continued during Spring Valley’s Public Health and Safety meeting of the fire department’s on going issue of lacking day time volunteers and increased call volumes. Chief Bogatitus believes that making the part time position paid would attract certified personnel that are necessary in operating trucks and responding to calls immediately. While the council was for the idea, issues of financing still remain. The city has already applied for a Federal Emergency Management Association Grant to help with expenses. The city will address the issue again at their next finance meeting.
