MORRIS – Illinois State Senator Sue Rezin said she wants more hearings to help find the cause of the COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home that took 33 lives. On Wednesday, the Illinois House Veterans’ Affairs Committee met and questioned officials and consultants about procedures at the home and what the status is now for those still residing there.
“We still don’t know why it took 12 days for an on-site inspection to be conducted by the Illinois Department of Public Health.” said Senator Rezin, “This deadly delay meant that almost two full weeks went by where ineffective infection control protocols continued uncorrected – including the use of ineffective hand sanitizer.”
Since the pandemic began, 209 residents and staff of the LaSalle Veterans’ Home have tested positive for COVID-19. Countywide, there have been 831 infections associated with long term care facilities and 122 deaths.
