Statewide gas price average over $1.30 more than last year ahead of Thanksgiving rush

CHICAGO – Fears of slowing economic activity in the U.S. due to a resurgence of COVID-19, along with reports that the Biden Administration is calling for the release of stockpiled oil from the U.S., China, Japan, and South Korea, is putting downward pressure on crude prices according to the American Automobile Association.
Illinois is nearly 20 cents above the current national average at $3.57 per gallon, a major increase compared to last year at $2.20. Putnam County holds one of the highest gas price averages in the state at $3.56 per gallon. LaSalle County is fairing cheapest in the region, at $3.47 per gallon.
