STREATOR – Since the inception of Streator’s Downtown Facade Grant Program, over 30 businesses have been rewarded. On Tuesday, city council members reviewed the history and status of the Tax Increment Financed program that was created in 2014. Since then 34 downtown properties have reaped the benefits, beautifying their brick and mortar exteriors. According to City Engineer Jeremy Palm, in total, these 34 paid grants equal a city investment of over $465,000, with $30,000 coming from the city’s general revenue. In addition, tax records show that since the downtown TIF was created, properties awarded the grant-generated a TIF increment of over $15,000.
