Tax Scams: The IRS Will Not Ask For Gift Cards

OTTAWA – With the deadline for taxes come and gone the Internal Revenue Service is warning everyone once again that scammers will be hard at work trying to swindle people.
You should always know that calls claiming you owe money or face arrest are always a scam and you should hang up the phone.   The IRS would not and could not accept payments via gift cards or wire transfer, and would not have the ability to have you arrested or deported within hours.   For information on how the IRS would contact you with problems with your return, visit IRS.gov
