OTTAWA – Opening statements will take place this morning in the murder trial of a Sandwich man accused of murdering his ex-wife’s parents. Jury selection ended yesterday at the LaSalle County Courthouse for 38-year-old Donald A. Fredres, who is accused of shooting and killing 62-year-old Gregory and 62-year-old Brenda Barnes at their home in Sheridan in mid-March of last year. Fredres is also accused of shooting out the windows of ex-wife’s home, before allegedly fleeing to her parent’s residence to commit the crimes. He is being charged with multiple counts of murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He is pleading not guilty.
