Seven twisters rip through Illinois; including Bureau and Lee County

UNDATED -A twister that touched down in North Central Illinois left devastating damage to properties in Arlington.  Matt Friedlein of the National Weather Service said Tuesday that so far they have identified seven twisters, including one that touched down near Arlington in Bureau County and another near Paw Paw in Lee County.

The tornado that struck Arlington damaged farm buildings on the properties of Steve Sondgeroth and Ray Wood Monday evening. Sondgeroth says an eye-witness just about a half-mile away warned him of the storm heading his way.

Sondgeroth and nearly 20 of his friends have been working since Tuesday morning to clean up the damage.

Ray Wood, who lives a few miles from Sondgeroth, experienced severe damage throughout his property after the twister struck his horse barn. Wood says nine horses escaped from the barn but were all found safe.

Director Keenan Cambell of the Bureau County Emergency Management and officials for the National Weather Service took damage surveys to both Arlington properties to estimate wind speeds.
