Two Found Dead In DeKalb County Fire

DeKalb – A married couple was found dead after authorities responded to a fire early Sunday morning.  The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says a motorist on I-88 saw flames coming from south of the tollway in the rural Malta area.  When deputies arrived shortly before 2 am, they found a barn was fully engulfed and the house on the property was on fire as well.   Firefighters located two married individuals, dead, in the home that the couple had lived in for several years.   An investigation into both the cause of the fire and the deaths of the two people is ongoing.
Units from several fire departments responded.  In addition to the Malta Fire Department, units from DeKalb, Sycamore, Rochelle, Shabbona, Waterman, Lee, Creston and Steward assisted.  The Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office, DeKalb County Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire.
