BYRON – An early Saturday morning head on collision near Byron has claimed the life of a member of the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Illinois State Police the crash occurred on US RT 72 between a Truck and an SUV. The driver of the truck, 50-year-old Lt. Randy Hilliard of Byron was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and three passengers of the other vehicle were taken to Rockford hospitals. Hilliard has been with the department for 27 years. The investigation of the crash is ongoing by the Illinois State Police.
