MENDOTA – A mural over 120’ long depicting part of the railroad history of North Central Illinois will be coming to Mendota. NCI ARTworks will be unveiling Monday the plans to install a depiction of the former railroad station on a building in the downtown area. The metal panels will be attached to the south side of a building adjacent to a parking lot in the 800 block of Monroe Street as part of the Silo Pathways Countryside Public Art Tour.
Michelle Wade of Triple Service Inc said in a press release “We appreciate history, heritage and we love our town. This piece brings it all to fruition, especially for those who never got to see this magnificent building in real life. We want to raise the depot for upcoming generations to enjoy.”
The presentation will begin at 4:45 PM at the Breaking the Prairie Museum on Monday.
“The Union Depot is a very important part of Mendota history, and we welcome the mural as a reminder of that amazing building that was demolished in 1942.” said Emily McConville, Mendota City Manager.
