Water Street Wet, But River Remains Below Record

PERU – Businesses along Water Street in Peru have had to prepare for many floods over the last dozen years, and they knew what to expect as the Illinois River crested early Friday morning. The city of Peru was also keeping a watchful eye on utilities as well. Peru Fire Chief Jeff King said they were able to monitor the situation and keep the electrical plant up and running.   Portions of Water Street remain closed Friday as waters hopefully begin to recede.  The river rose to 12 foot above flood stage, short of the record 14.4 foot that occurred in 2013.
