OTTAWA – Local farmers are still waiting for their big break to begin planting, but with an unfit weather forecast for this weekend, the standstill may be prolonged. LaSalle County Farm Bureau President David Isermann most farmers are still not comfortable to try planting. By Monday, Isermann says thats when farmers will start to get nervous. According to federal crop insurance providers, June 5th is when farmers could significantly lose yield. Isermann says farmers can still be successful, all they need is at least 10 days of warm weather before the June 5th mark. According to the USDA, Illinois farmers have planted a mere 11 percent of corn, compared to 88 percent last year.
