Working women bare the brunt of COVID-19 recession, studies say

UNDATED – According to a new study, working women are experiencing the worst effects of the COVID-19 recession. In “The Impact of COVID-19 on Gender Equality”, a National Bureau of Economic Research Working Paper, researchers suggest that more women in the United States will have lost their jobs because the industries they tend to work in have been harder hit by the effects of the pandemic. In addition, the coronavirus shutdowns have closed schools and daycare centers around the country, keeping kids at home and making it even harder for parents to keep working. In another survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, women held less than half of all jobs in March 2020, but more than half of the job losses in that month resulting from COVID-19, were jobs that women held.
