PERU – The City of Peru met Monday to discuss finances, property purchases and a multi-jurisdiction facility. The city announced that retail sales are booming in the area. Over 6 million dollars in sales tax has been accounted for due to frequent shopping. The council also approved the purchase of a 19-acre property located at the southeast corner of Illinois Route 251 and Shooting Park Road. The location is one that is in the petition for a shared police service location for LaSalle, Peru and Oglesby. Following the approval, the city is agreeing to authorize the execution for a shared police service and facility for the cities of LaSalle, Oglesby and Peru.

Alderman Dave Putthof believes that even if it isn’t selected for a shared service location, it is a great piece of property and will give the city more control.

He also says that the council has been positive in regards to the shared location/service. “They [Council] want to continue to proceed and work towards saving tax payers money.”
A major water pipe is leaking on North Peoria, according to the City of Peru. The city discussed the issue at their council meeting Monday evening. About 3 quarters worth of the Peru water tower has leaked. The council says the 8 to 10 inch pipe is still leaking, however valves will be inserted on Sunset Drive to fix the problem. The city says roads will be shut down Tuesday and Wednesday.
