SPRING VALLEY – Spring Valley’s Police Department received numerous calls regarding social security card scams. Authorities say, persons receiving the calls are asked to verify social security card information and that the police were investigating them for criminal behavior. On at least one of the calls, the offenders have allegedly “spoofed” the Spring Valley Police Department number so that it shows up on caller ID. Persons receiving these types of calls should hang up and not give out any personal information. Authorities say no police department would ever call a citizen to verify or request social security information over the telephone.
