Former NBA star shares his story of addiction to Streator community

Chris Herren at Streator Township High School 3/1/23

STREATOR – Former NBA player Chris Herren gave a compelling talk to a packed Streator High School Auditorium to share his journey of addiction. For over a decade, the former Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics player has been speaking to 200 high schools annually about his addiction to alcohol, narcotics, cocaine, and heroin.

Herren, who played with stars like Micheal Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal says there is no greater accomplishment than achieving 14 years of sobriety. Today, he calls on schools to provide resources for students and urges parents to check in with their children and start an open dialogue about drugs and alcohol.
