SPRINGFIELD – Governor JB Pritzker has issued a proclamation announcing April as Illinois Safe Digging Month. Professional excavators and homeowners should call 8-1-1 before starting any outdoor digging project. Illinois law requires all homeowners and professional excavators to call JULIE, the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators, at least two working days before digging. In 2022, the Illinois Commerce Commission issued 53 warnings and 113 citations for safe digging violations resulting in $396,558 in penalties.
