Downtown dog droppings debate dominates discussion

Mayor Boelk – Mendota

MENDOTA – The problem of dog owners not picking up after their pets downtown boiled over during the Mendota City Council meeting Monday night. Mayor David Boelk chastised those irresponsible pet owners for not keeping the sidewalks clean in the community.

The Mendota Police Department say they receive anywhere from 8 to 10 complaints a year about the issue. In 2022, five individuals were issued $75 citations for not picking up dog waste in the city. Mayor Boelk said if you see someone not taking care of the mess left behind by their dog, you should call the police and report it.
