Governor attends Gold Star Families ceremony in Marseilles

MARSEILLES – J.B. Pritzker  attended a ceremony to honor the National Guard and Illinois’ Gold Star families in Marseilles. The event, held at the Middle East Conflicts Wall on Sunday, honored families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in the military.   The Governor spoke to a gathering of Illinois Gold Star Mothers and presented them with flowers.

“Your loss moves me” he said, “Every time I encounter our soldiers on the job and thank them for their service or when I carry out my duties of Commander and Chief of our Illinois National Guard.  Sending off our troops to serve overseas, or to save our communities from deadly floods, or to protect the public safety during this pandemic.”
The last Sunday of September has been marked as Gold Star Mothers Day since 1936.
