Illinois State Police Assist in Heart Delivery for Transplant

DES PLAINES – The Illinois State Police helped rush a donor organ to a patient in need after a mechanical issue on the way from the airport last week. A surgeon, a transplant coordinator and a medical student who were traveling from Midway Airport to the University of Chicago Medicine’s Hyde Park campus when their vehicle broke down on I-55. Troopers quickly realized that this matter required special attention and transported the passengers and a donor heart they had with them to the hospital. The spokeswoman for UChicago Medicine advised the transplant recipient is recovering.
