MENDOTA – There are many great areas for children to play in the city of Mendota, but if your child has mobility issues, there is only one swing set they can use, and unfortunately it was damaged over the weekend.
The mother of 13 year-old Rosa enjoys the park by Lake Mendota for its inclusive play area, however on Tuesday her daughter was unable to use the swing.
The metal platform and ramp is designed for those in wheelchairs, however, it can be tempting for groups of children to climb on it at once. When that happens, it can break, leaving those with special needs without an activity they can participate in at the park.
A volunteer from the community on Wednesday repaired the swing so children like Rosa will be able to enjoy it once again.
