LaSalle officials says legal action was taken over 1st Street building years before collapse

LASALLE – LaSalle city officials say they have been in litigations for years with the owner of the building that partially collapsed on 1st Street, Monday morning. According to a press release by the City of LaSalle, concerns were conveyed to the owner of the 1001 1st Street building, and offered to take ownership of the property to demolish it, but have been in litigations with the owner for roughly two years. Building Inspector Andy Bacidore says in recent months, more signs of structural deficiencies began to appear including cracking on bricks and bricks falling off the building. The City placed barricades around the property to warn passersby and have continued to watch the property until its collapse Monday morning.
