Over 300 tires collected so far in Livingston County

By: Josbert Lonnee

PONTIAC – The Livingston County Health Department will continue their collection of unused tires in an effort to reduce mosquito breeding grounds by providing a means of environmentally safe tire disposal. So far this month they have collected over 300 used tires, which are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. They often fill with stagnant water and debris making them perfect environments for mosquitoes to thrive.
Tires limited to passenger cars and trucks. No farm implement, semi, and large tires of any kind. Tires can be off or on the rim. An appointment is required and only four tires per household. To schedule a tire drop-off appointment, call the LCHD Environmental Health Division at 815-844-7174 ext. 216.
