Residents Warned of Phone Scam Attempt

Peru Police Department- Photo Studstill Media

PERU – A phone scam involving callers pretending to be from local law enforcement has struck the area again. According to Deputy Chief Bob Pyszka of the Peru Police Department, a resident recieved a call claiming to be from their local law enforcement agency. During the call, the scammer said that the resident was under investigation for insurance fraud and that a warrant is out for their arrest. The caller ID would indicate that it was from a police department, faked using technology known as spoofing. To avoid arrest, the caller would suggest sending money to an address provided by them.
Deputy Chief Pyszka reminds all residents that no agency would call you to advise you of a warrant and that you should never give out personal information or send any form of payment.
