PRINCETON – The Princeton Fire Department commended a member of their department for going above and beyond the call of duty. In January, Fire Chaplain Scott Schmidt assisted those who were involved in a two vehicle crash on I-80. Both vehicles were from one household moving a family from New York to California. The crash stranded the couple, two children, and pets. Chaplain Schmidt helped get the family a hotel and arranged for the wife and children transportation to an airport to fly to California, then helped the husband get a rental truck and take the pets to continue their cross-country move. Schmidt was awarded the Community Service Commendation for his actions.
