STREATOR – Streator City Council members approved the “Safe Routes to Schools” grant application at a City Council meeting Wednesday night. The $200,000 grant will go towards installing sidewalks so that kids can walk or ride their bikes to school in a safe environment. City engineer Jeremy Palm said that the sidewalks will go along less travelled streets to get to Kimes Elementary School to keep children from walking down busier roads. A survey will be going out to the parents of Kimes Elementary students, which will help gauge how many students are walking to school.
